Meet APOLLO5

Thomas Mottershead - Tenor

 

Thomas is a tenor and conductor based in South Wales. He is currently Music Director of the Malmesbury Singers, Athenaeum Singers (based in Warminster), Cheltenham Choral Society and the Prometheus Consort. Thomas studied music at Cardiff University, followed by a Masters in Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, as well as a PGCE at the University of Cambridge. During his studies, he was awarded the Sir Geraint Evans Vocal Prize and, additionally, the award for Choral Conducting. With his vast experience of performing a mixture of choral works, operas and musicals, Thomas's career has taken him to St. Peter's Basilica, St. Paul's Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, the Royal Albert Hall and other venues around the world, including the United States and China.

Thomas is often invited to be a tenor soloist for concerts and sings as part of the Llandaff and Gloucester Cathedral Choirs, including for live and recorded broadcasts for the BBC. He also appeared on the 2022 series of 'The Voice UK' as part of a duo, receiving four chair turns and a 'block' from Sir Tom Jones. In July 2025, Thomas joined APOLLO5 and has already enjoyed many tours with the group. In his free time, he enjoys watching sports (particularly football and Formula 1), going skiing and travelling. He has also recently been playing many more board games, particularly on APOLLO5 tours, with Joe often teaching him the rules!
